2010 Global Predictions
Here are the first 5 of my 59 global predictions for 2010.
1. Unemployment remains high through the winter, spring, and summer.
2. Rising homeless pet problems in US and parts of Europe as unemployment remains high through the winter, spring, and summer.
3. There are some major utility (electricity grid) problems throughout all of 2010. Major Midwest storms, a wayward hurricane in the western Gulf of Mexico, plants going off-line in the Northeast (summer?). 2010 may be a good year to own a generator. On the upside, these problems will cause a decent amount of infrastructure investment.
4. Major advances in battery size and capacity for electric cars. This breakthrough will lead to a lot more electric models available for consumers. Look for Europe and India to lead this charge (pardon the pun, although it's fun!) and for China to jump onto the trend with veracity. The US will be left behind for a bit. By 2012 or so we'll be buying lots of electric imports.
5. Midterm elections will see gains for the GOP in Washington. Democrats will hold on to their majority in the house, but the Senate will shift, just enough to create a major challenge to Obama's agenda. Expect a major push of the Democrat agenda through the early half of the year and summer.
